Rather than having students write traditional journal entries on the assigned topic, we use the blog feature of our school webpage to allow collaborative journaling. Doing this allows us to collaborate with the students more frequently, and our administrators have even participated in the discussions. Rather than sitting down to grade journal entries, we can check the blog as we have time and read the comments. We have also eliminated the "I forgot my journal" excuse from class.

This blog is set up through our school webpage so students do not require a separate username and password to access it. There are other blogging sites for teachers to use with students. We prefer to use the blog through our school webpage because it does not require a separate account.
